Little did I know that this would become reality. Sure did not. When we were in the midst of the pandemic, the photographs accidentally depict what we saw, empty streets, quiet visages of anticipated activity and a sense of lonely desperation.
When I began this portfolio, the idea was that any large city presents a cacophony during the daylight hours, but visit the city just before sunrise and one can find a certain solace that exists at no other time. I would leave home around 4 am fortified with hot tea and adrenaline as I raced to beat the sunrise. Darkness would slowly give way to a painting created by the sun, reaching the rooftops, highlighting the architectural landscape. The peaceful time in Los Angeles begins at early dawn, and this is when I captured the nature of silence and freedom that does exist here. The absence of people, although there are a few, allows one to experience the shapes and lines of the architecture, the silence that fills the air, and the quiet reverberation of the empty landscape. I am so grateful as we all are, that the streets are again active and illness is beginning to retreat thanks to the vaccine.
